Americans reclaim Mustard Belt, rightful Throne of Gluttony at annual hot dog eating contest

CONEY ISLAND — An American reclaimed his rightful place atop The Throne of Gluttony Wednesday after eating a world-record 66 hot dogs at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island.
Joey Chestnut, 23, faced former six-time champion of Japan, Takeru Kobayashi, who could finish only 63 mouth-watering dogs. The honor of stuffing as many processed meat wieners into one’s face as possible in 12 minutes has not been an American’s for the last ten years.
“This is a victory for Americans everywhere. No longer will we enter restaurants ashamed of our past. No longer will we cower to others at the hot dog stands of our beloved streets,” Chestnut said.
Chestnut said he worked hard leading up to the event, stretching his stomach with pounds of All-American foods like doughnuts, hamburgers and fries.
“I believe the values that have preserved us as a nation are the same values that led me to victory,” Chestnut said. “Long live the U.S.A.”
